FASHION | My love of designer handbags

[noskim]In my family we have a bit of a designer bag fetish. My mum has a collection of Christian Dior, Versace, Chanel and LV bags that have been gifted to her over the years. As tweens and teenagers, my sisters and I, would go to Spain, seek out the ‘looky looky’ men (that’s what we call them) and look at which fake designer bags we could afford with our holiday Euro.

As you grow older though, you see the fakes for what they are. Cheap, nasty looking bags that fall apart and on the whole, bare no resemblance to the real thing. Also my tastes have changed, I’ve moved on from Prada, YSL and LV. Now I pine for Vivienne Westwood and Marc by Marc Jacobs, chic bags that aren’t covered in a logo pattern. Here are some of my favourites at the moment.

Vivienne Westwood and Diane Von Furtenberg

Top Row – Vivienne Westwood Red Clutch Bag / Vivienne Westwood Yasmin Orb Patent Black Apollo Bag
Bottom Row – Vivienne Westwood Chancery 5815 Patent Black Moc Croc Bag / DVF Harper Beige Suede Day Bag

My love of Vivienne Westwood started as I discovered Punk and while slowly I’ve become less punky, my interest in her collections have not waned. I’m a lover of black so for me a black bag is always a winner, the two above have a nice patent finish and I love the shape of the Yasmin Orb bag. The red VW clutch is stunning, and would be a great way to add a bit of colour to a LBD or to transform an outfit from day to night.
Moving on to the DVF Harper bag – this is completely not the type of bag I’d usually go for. For one I’ve never been a beige fan, but recently I’ve started adding more colour into my wardrobe and beige and tans are becoming a go to base colours. I love the tassel detail on the bag and the rich texture of the suede.

Marc Jacobs

Top – Washed Up Valentina Taupe Leather Bag / Too Hot To Handle Black Satchel Bag
Bottom – Calamity Rei Zip Black Bag / Goodbye Columbus Croc Bentley Cream Bag

The Marc by Marc Jacobs collection is full of delicious bags, and just cutting them down to four bags was really difficult! The Valentina Taupe Leather bag has stunning piping detail and lovely gold tone hardware. I just love the colour too. I can see myself using at a summer BBQ on the seafront.

My favourite out of this selection of Marc Jacobs bags is the Sactchel bag, I love the look of the soft slouch leather and the tube top handles. If I was ever lucky enough to buy this bag, I would probably use it as my day to day bag.

Calamity Rei Zip is a lovely casual bag, I love the oversize zip pocket at the front and the luggage tag detailing. It also comes with a detachable shoulder strap.

Finally the Goodbye Columbus Bentley Cream bag is triple sectioned and has a lovely croc texture. As summer approaches and light colour fill my wardrobe, this is the perfect accessory to match.

Which bag is your favourite?
