Hubs is going through a really big meat phase at the moment. He is particularly in love with BBQ and Smoked meats, which led him to discover Smokeys on Brighton seafront. Don’t get me wrong I’m not adverse to these kinds of foods- pulled pork is the stuff of dreams, but we had already visited New Club that week and had previously gone to Bodeans, where I might add I ate until I thought I was going to die!
Anyway this was a while a go, before the bitter cold had taken over and banished any thoughts of sitting outside. It was a lovely a late summers day and we decided to take prime people watching position outside on the terrace.
I know for a fact Hubs had already planned what he was having and we ended up ordering the sharing platter as a starter – this consisted of Stuffed potato skins, buffalo wings and most importantly Armadillo Eggs. No these aren’t actual eggs, rather cream cheese stuffed jalapeño, wrapped in sausage meat, covered in bacon and cooked in BBQ sauce. They were divine!
For main we had the Smokeys blowout platter, which had pulled pork, beef brisket, pork ribs, hot link ring and chicken thighs served with chips and coleslaw. Not surprisingly, we had to take some of this home in a doggy bag! All the meat was beautifully cooked, tender and delicious, I would go as far as saying that Smokeys is definitely the best smokehouse we have been too.
If you have a love for BBQ meats and hot spicy sauces I would highly recommend a trip to Smokeys, even if it is just to try the Armadillo eggs.
