At this time of the year, many of us are thinking about the New Year. We’re considering things that we’d like to do, changes that we’d like to make, adventures that we’d like to go on and new things that we’d like to try. You might also be making a few Green New Year’s resolutions.
Some of the most common New Year’s resolutions are about our health, our financial situation and our bad habits. We promise ourselves that we’ll go to the gym more, spend less and eat more of the right things. But, this year, why don’t you focus on something more substantial, which could also have benefits to your health and your bank balance? Why not make some Green New Year’s Resolutions to do your bit for the planet?
Get Solar Panels
Adding solar panels to your home means that you save money on power, but also that you contribute green energy to your supplier. Get a solar panel quote and get ready to save some money while doing your bit to reduce the use of fossil fuels.
Insulate Your Home
If you live in an older home, you might be wasting money, power and fuel by throwing the heat that you generate straight outside. Adding insulation to your roof and cavity walls, and even simple insulators like draught excluders can reduce the energy that you use, and the money that you spend, while keeping your house nice and toasty.
Turn the Tap Off
Are you guilty of leaving the tap on for two minutes while you brush your teeth? There’s no need for this running water, but many of us do it out of habit. Start only running the taps for as long as you are using it.
Turn the Temperatures Down
Turn your thermostat down a few degrees and start washing clothes at 30 degrees instead of 40.
Give Up Fast Fashion
If you love shopping, you might have cupboards filled with cheap clothes that are made in poor conditions. Contributing to fast fashion is terrible for the planet, and creates a false economy. Instead, try to invest in quality, shop local, or buy second hand.
Growing food is a great way to save money, and there’s plenty that you can grow in a small garden or even a window box.
Recycling is the easiest thing that you can do to be greener. Hopefully, you are already recycling the basics at home, but you could also be recycling home appliances, and donating unwanted goods to charity stores.
Use Reusable Bags
Another simple thing that you could do is use all of those bags that you’ve kept, instead of stuffing them into a drawer. It’s always best to use what you already have until it’s no longer usable, but if you are more likely to take a cool tote to the store, get one.
Why not combine green practices and health by leaving the car at home more often in 2021, and walking short distances instead?
Living a greener life in 2021 can help the environment, save you money and improve your mood. You’ll certainly get a boost from knowing that you are doing something good.Love Lilla xx
